The last match at the main venue on the opening day was totally in favor of Korea’s side. In the beginning of the first set, Korea kept the leading momentum while Kazakhstan was always catching up the pace afterwards. Kazakhstan called their second time-out when tie 18-18. However, Korea didn’t leave any chance to their opponents and finished the set in 25-22.
Thanks to the unstoppable spikes from caption Kim Yeonkoung, Korea established the advantage to 9 points at 14-5 and kept the gap before finishing the set in 25-16.
In the final set, Korea took an 8-4 lead at the first technical time-out. Kazakhstan reversed to 9-8 by double blocks from Olga Nassedkina and Korinna Shimtseva, turning the competition even fiercer as Kazakhstan always kept closer afterwards. In spite of Kazakhstan’s Lydmila Anarbayeva managed to save a match point, superstar Kim Yeonkoung finished the crucial set in 25-22 through a powerful attack.
