Champions League night belongs to Fenerbahce and Kim Yeon-Koung | 2017/1/11

Luxembourg, January 11, 2017. Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL and Dinamo KRASNODAR were the eventual winners of the two matches on schedule for Wednesday as the second round of play continues in the group stage of the elite 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women.

Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL dropped only 40 points along the way to their comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-19, 25-9) over Azerrail BAKU to keep an immaculate record in Pool C after two rounds of play. Korean superstar Kim Yeon-Koung (pictured) chiefly contributed to the win by scoring 22 points on her own. “I am very happy today with the performance of my team. It is not easy after the break because we have not played for a long time. Today my team performed well and I think this is good way to start the rest of the season,” Fenerbahce head coach Marcello Abbondanza said. Team captain Eda Erdem Dündar added: “We started with a 3-0 victory at home and it is very good for us. They played well but we did not allow them to play that strong because of our services. I congratulate my teammates and we will continue to play as we did today.”

In the other match of the day, Dinamo KRASNODAR celebrated their first victory in Pool B after a match with Romanian national champions CS Volei Alba BLAJ marked by continuous turnarounds. The winners of the 2015 and 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup eventually emerged victorious 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 25-22). Some 1,300 people came to Transilvania Sporting Center in Sibiu to witness two teams who were both looking for their first victory in the competition. However, most left in disappointment when the Russian team ran out eventual winners by three sets to one in what was mostly a very close and competitive match. Natalia Malykh from Dinamo KRASNODAR proved to be the best scorer, taking 27 points throughout the match.
